Event description
Do you wish to befriend the elderly residents in Tanglin Halt, collect their stories and map their social networks? Join us now!

About this event

Did you know that:

  • 1 in 3 of Tanglin Halt's residents are 65 and above
  • Approximately 200 shops and 3,400 residents households will be relocated following Tanglin Halt's redevelopment

Can you imagine what Tanglin Halt would look like without its people? Do you think it will still be the same? What do you want our future generation to remember about Tanglin Halt?

This is where My Community's Cultural Mapping project comes in, where we want to better document people's stories and memories of Tanglin Halt by putting them on a map. This way, even when Tanglin Halt is redeveloped, we can have a detailed picture of not just what the neighbourhood looked like, but how people lived in this space. When these residents relocate to Dawson, we will befriend them again and create opportunities to meet with their new and former neighbours. This is where you come in! We're looking for new volunteers to be part of our team, especially if you:

  • Enjoy having conversations with people, especially the elderly
  • Can speak languages apart from English (such as Mandarin, Malay, Tamil, or Chinese dialects)
  • Are comfortable with taking written notes and writing
  • Am comfortable with maps, and would like to learn how to make them

If you enjoy analysing data and have experience with geograhic information systems (GIS) software, that would also be great!

If you're interested, join us on Sunday, 5 December 2021 for an engagement session to learn more!

  • Venue: Museum @ My Queenstown (Block 46-3 Commonwealth Drive, #01-388, 140463). Near Tanglin Halt Food Centre, opposite the Chef Hainanese Western Food stall.
  • Date: Sunday, 5 December 2021

Please come 15 minutes before the event's start time, and do bring an umbrella in case it rains!
