National University of Singapore Walking Tour

Your ole Uncle Chris left school long ago. So, I will not be able to do an in-depth study of the current day syllabus - whether it be Science, Technology, Mathematics or the Humanities. But (and it is a big BUT), we will still be able to an in-depth study of our educational system, starting from old to new.

There are a few good reasons why some travel agencies are doing regular tours (for foreigners) to our universities – much to the chagrin of NUS (National University of Singapore) and NTU (Nanyang Technological University).

The reasons are easy to understand – the tourists intrude into their school compound transport system (which is free, and meant for the students) and also their lunch by competing with them at the canteens or elsewhere.

Unlike the travel agencies, we won’t be using their bus service and neither will we be competing with them for “lunch”. Our walking tour, in reality, is a scenic walk focusing on the school history and what we did to make our universities so popular.

All of us know, it is never easy to secure a seat at NUS. It is also not an easy time at NUS. It is hard work – I know – I saw my 2 daughters through NUS in the early 2000s. We are choosing to do NUS because NUS has a friendlier tone to “handle” the hordes of tourists as oppose to NTU’s “anti-tourists” approach.

Meet me at Clementi MRT, 9am, 30th November 2025 (SUNDAY). This tour will end at the Lee Kong Chian Museum, perhaps about 11 or 11.30am. I suggest you also visit the Lee Kong Chian Museum (after the tour) and take a long hard look at the very expensive dinosaur skeletons (I think it cost us $12Mil)! Or was it $8Mil? We’ll talk about the dinosaurs when we meet on the 30th November 2025, 9am. Don’t miss this!!
