This tour begins at Maxwell MRT station, and will end in front of Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh – so that we can “tar pau” some of their famous kueh for our elderly. That aside, perhaps the next most famous will be the Peranakan history of Neil Road.
But the history of Colonel James Neil is seldom told. So, I’ll tell you about it – it has something to do with our Fort Canning. We’ll also walk the entire Neil Road. It isn’t a long road. We’ll cover the history from way back when it was nothing more than a jungle track.
Today, Neil Road, together with Blair Plains are known as an upmarket former Peranakan enclave. To be sure, most Peranakans here are long gone. But they left behind a whole chunk of Peranakan History here.
We meet at Maxwell MRT station, 9am. Upon exiting the MRT, take the escalator to EXIT 2. Meet me at street level. You should see the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple just across the street.
