Course Overview

Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a serious and potentially debilitating industrial disease that is recognised as the most prevalent industrial disease in Singapore.

Course Objectives

This course provides the student with an appreciation of the nature of noise hazards in the workplace and the effects of noise on people. It also details the approach to carrying out noise assessments in the workplace and in the general environment and determines the significance of measurement data in relation to the various standards for compliance.
On successful completion of this module, attendees should be able to describe the consequences to health and well-being from excessive exposure to noise, understand the measurement of noise in relation to current standards, and conduct surveys in the workplace to assess risks from noise.

Attendees would also be able to advise on the use of control measures including personal protective equipment, appreciate concerns about environmental noise and advise on its assessment, and understand current standards and good practice in this field.
