About this Event

How do you best like your coffee? Is it that hot, fragrant cup of Nanyang-style Kopi from the coffee shop near your house? Or is it that warm cup of specialty coffee brewed at your favourite café?

One Bean, Many Coffee brings Singaporeans to coffee factories, kopitiams and cafes to learn more about the art of perfecting that cup of coffee.

About the stall

Formerly known as the No Name Teh Tarik Stall, Bhai Sarbat was co-founded by Kabiruddin and Zamir Ahmad in 1977. The stall serves more than 1,000 drinks a day and can be identified from a distance via its long, snaking queue of customers craving for a shot of caffeine.

Mohammad Asgar is the second-generation owner of Bhai Sarbat. But he didn’t start out making drinks. In fact, he started life in Singapore some 18 years ago as a handyman and maintenance officer at Mustafa Centre. Despite having entered the country with a background in furniture-making, he found it difficult to find a job in the same field as he lacked the professional qualifications.

Mr Asgar left his job at Mustafa Centre nine years after arriving in Singapore. His next career move took him to a coffee stall at Beach Road where he learnt how to make his first cup of teh tarik. After just 10 days, the stall’s business owner gave up the business, leaving operations to Mr Asgar. However, as he was new to the business, Mr Asgar struggled to turnover a profit.

Subsequent attempts at running other coffee stalls, at places like Changi Village and ABC Market, proved fruitless. Nonetheless, he decided to press on and joined the crew at what was then known as the No Name Teh Sarbat Stall at 21 Bussorah Street. With determination and freshly-gleaned experience on his side, he and his uncle were successful in turning the drink stall into a success. Later, the stall was renamed Bhai Sarbat.

The stall’s drinks menu has now grown to a staggering 125 different drinks. It includes multiple variations of coffee.
