The exhibition showcases the world of Fish, a character that reflects the artist's inner world and mind. Fish as a character is a fictional projection of the artist's identity. Through the lens of childlike wonder & imagination, the artist explores his relationship with and how he understands the world.
Fish is an ongoing subject that is featured in the artist's body of work. By using his character as a proxy, it allows the artist to express and visualize concepts from a different perspective. Through the distance and from the limitlessness of fiction, rules can be more malleable — Memories combine and transform, expressions pushed, and horizons extend.
The works shown consist of conceptual works, ideations, sketches, fully rendered works and everything in between. An accumulation of artworks made with the intention of expanding imagination, atmosphere, and the world surrounding the character.
About Artist
Desnando Sarlim is a contemporary visual artist, a watercolorist who also works with digital mediums to illustrate ideas and tell stories. Art-making is one of the ways in which he aims to make sense of and understand the world around him. The things he make are often inspired from his own lived experience. To him, the art he creates is also a way for him to record objects and emotions as a means to process or preserve them. He graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from LASALLE College of the Arts, and was also a recipient of the Winston Oh Travelogue Award 2023.
