Though born in Italy, Gian Carlo Menotti came to the U.S. to study at the Curtis Institute and spent most of his life shaping the American operatic landscape.

The YST Voice Department presents a year-long exploration of vocal music rooted in folk traditions, storytelling and cultural identity—from the distinct folk and vocal traditions of America (Semester 1) to the rich musical heritage of Northern and Eastern Europe (Semester 2).
