About the Programme/Event

What good does lifelong learning bring and what are the opportunities available for seniors? How can seniors chart their own learning journeys and what possibilities are made available after their skills training? Join us as we launch a month-long celebration of the International Month of Older Persons. Discover how the learning landscape has evolved and will continue to evolve to serve you better.

About the Speaker

Ms. Jennifer Than, Team Leader, SkillsFuture Advice, South West Community Development Council

Ms. Than has over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, with a specialisation in programme development and training delivery for workers. She is passionate about helping individuals in their career and training needs to fulfil their potential. Armed with six years of rich career coaching experience, Jennifer is able to work with jobseekers who are seeking career direction and help them in navigating the job market and preparing them for their next job or career.

Prof. Kalyani K. Mehta, Prof., Master and PhD of Gerontology Programmes, S R Nathan School of Human Development, SUSS

Prof. Mehta is the founder of the first Gerontology Master programme in Singapore, at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. With a Masters and PhD in Social Work from the National University of Singapore, Professor Mehta has widespread experience in social work and ageing issues. In addition to being on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Ethnic and Cultural Diversity in Social Work, she has also been the Vice President of the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association Management Board, and President of the Singapore Association of Social Workers. A former Nominated member of Parliament and currently serving as Justice of the Peace, Dr Mehta has contributed much to the social services in Singapore.

Mr. Lim Jit Kai, Director of Active Aging and Family Life, People’s Association

Mr. Lim has over 20 years of experience working with the community and held portfolios that involve the youth, seniors, women and families.The PA, through the Community Clubs and Residents’ Network Centres organise a wide range of activities to keep seniors physically, socially and mentally active. The friendships formed and strengthened through these activities provide a safe space for seniors to learn and grow.

Mr. Thomas Kuan, Founder of University of the 3rd Age (U 3rd Age)

Mr. Kuan is the Founder of U 3rd Age (University of 3rd Age). He is currently the President East Asia Federation for Adult Education (EAFAE) and the Treasurer of PIMA (Promoting, Interrogating & Mobilising Adult Learning & Education). He was inducted as a Fellow of Beta Phi International Literary Society (USA) in 2014. He is a Certified Qigong Trainer of Meimen Qigong Culture Center, Taiwan (2015).

Ms. Wong Chew Wee, Head, National Silver Academy (NSA), Council for Third Age (C3A)

Ms. Wong heads the National Silver Academy (NSA) at the Council for Third Age (C3A), an agency which promotes active ageing in Singapore, with its focus on lifelong learning, senior volunteerism, and positive ageing. She has a passion for serving the seniors and hopes to make learning a part of their lives for their cognitive and social well-being.

Time of Your Life Celebration 2020

National Library Board (NLB), in collaboration with the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) is pleased to announce the Time of Your Life Celebration 2020, in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Gerontology Programme of SUSS. This is a series of exciting events such as interactive talks and panel discussions to engage our community to exchange ideas on gerontology-related topics.

Industry Expert Series

Learn from industry experts and professionals from organisations such as Council for Third Age, ELDEX Asia, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and many others through online seminars, panel discussions and workshops that discuss pertinent issues in the field of Gerontology.
