Perfect Days – Create Your Own Future Paradiso in Poetry

Facilitated by: Yeow Kai Chai

  • Venue: Function Room 2 @ Our Tampines Hub
  • Dates: 9 Sep / 13 Sep (Tuesdays)
  • Time: 7pm - 9pm

The best way to predict the future is to create it, says theorist-author Peter Drucker. How very true, especially in evocative cinema. Immersed in the films of David Cronenberg, Spike Jonze and Jonathan Glazer, how do we come to terms with the future scenarios we have dreamed up for ourselves, even if some may verge on dystopic visions? With the tools of cinema and poetry, participants will learn to write verse contemplations that get under our skin. To qualify for this workshop, each attendee needs to submit a portfolio comprising five poems beforehand via this Google Form.

About A Few Little Words: Memories of The Future

Following the success of A Few Little Words: Stories from Tampines and Beyond 2024, this second installment, A Few Little Words II: Memories of the Future, continues to build a creative legacy in Tampines, commemorating Singapore's 60th National Day (SG60). Through a series of engaging literary workshops running from July to November 2025, participants will delve deeply into our rich history, shared heritage, collective memories, and imaginative cultural landscape. These workshops will act as a creative incubator for the local community, encouraging residents to explore new narratives deeply rooted in temporality—honoring the past, celebrating the present, and envisioning an inspired future. Participants will reflect on personal and communal histories, drawing from lived experiences and inherited stories to forge fresh literary expressions uniquely representative of Tampines' evolving identity.

Part of Singapore Writers Festival 2025, the culmination of these workshops will be an anthology co-edited by Quarterly Literary Review Singapore (QLRS) and Vertical Submarine. This curated publication will showcase a vibrant collection of narratives capturing the distinct spirit, memory, and imagination of Tampines residents.

Frequently asked questions

I see that there are two dates per writer being featured! Must I attend both?

These workshops are designed to be a once-off experience, so just attending one is sufficient.

I have no writing experience at all, can I still come for your workshop?

Yes, we welcome anyone with an interest to write even if you don't have the proper training.

When will we be able to submit our stories to be published in the community anthology?

We will be sharing with you the date shortly. Do join our mailing list and to keep a look out when you can submit once the date of our Open Call is released for your chance to be published.

I've been walking around for a while and I can't find Function Room 2.

Yes, Our Tampines Hub is rather huge and can be quite daunting for first-timers. We recommend all our guests to arrive 10-15mins earlier to explore the mall and navigate so that you arrive at your workshop on time! If you need any assistance, head over to the Customer Services counter for help.
