Description

Principles X - React

Prerequisites: Principles 6

Websites have come a long way since it first gained traction back in the 90s - sites were mostly textual and primarily used for sharing information between university-based scientific and physics laboratories. Fast track to today, websites nowadays are a lot more complicated than just a wall of text - ranging from social media platforms like Instagram to online video streaming platforms like Netflix. These applications are feature-rich and provides far more advanced functionality than what websites back in the 90s originally set out to achieve.

We have arrived at the place where it is no longer feasible to write these apps traditionally - using plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. ReactJS - an open source JavaScript library to build user interfaces, sets out to make building such application a painless experience. One of the gracious aspects of ReactJS as a UI library is that it combines the principles of pure functional programming and simplicity of component-based approach, empowering developers with a tool to create rich and engaging web apps efficiently with minimal code. At this point, the adoption of ReactJS hardly needs convincing when it has been widely adopted by many of the biggest players across multiple industries. Instagram, Netflix, Facebook and PayPal, just to name a handful.

Through this course, Code Campers will first learn how to set up their React development environment - this enables them to wield their ReactJS-fu even beyond the classroom walls. Code Campers can then proceed to explore the fundamental concepts of ReactJS. Any practice with JavaScript from previous courses lends well into this section, allowing them to focus solely on working through inner-workings of the library rather than bogged down by the programming language. We then learn how to hydrate their ReactJS apps with data via API calls - unlocking the ability to tap into the vast ocean of information on the Internet. With everything finally in place, Code Campers will now learn to deploy their applications onto the cloud, making them accessible anywhere in the world.

Course Schedule
