Professor's Lecture Series
Sustainability: Strategy and Impact with Professor Jasjit Singh
Tuesday 24 January 2017, 7pm - 9pm at INSEAD
Professor Jasjit Singh
Market-driven economic growth has raised living standards worldwide, including lifting over one billion people out of extreme poverty in recent decades. At the same time, humanity continues to grapple with critical issues like environmental degradation and a perception of rising inequality. Resolving such concerns is often seen as a task for non-profits, development agencies or governments. We will broaden this conversation by seeing how business can actively seek a positive impact to also be a part of the solution.
Our main focus will be on how a company or social enterprise can best align societal and commercial goals. We will also discuss how non-profits and development agencies can also employ business-like discipline for improving their effectiveness. Our overarching message will be that strategic thinking is critical not just for commercial success but also for achieving a positive impact: we can find a way of contributing to societal value creation within the constraints of whatever sector and organisation we choose to work in.
