Event description

Description

Leza Parker, a mother of 3, started her first business out of her own home while raising her children. Without a Bachelor Degree or much corporate experience, it was challenging building a business with no capital and expertise. Over the years, she went on to learn the stages of building business from accounting, marketing, and sales. As her business grows, she realizes that the potential of the business is way bigger than what her savings can supplement.

With that, she started funds raising at her 3rd year of business through investments loans to raise her share value. She eventually sold her shares in 2016 to a VC at an evaluation of S$5 million, five years after she started her first company from a home.

Leza Parker is obsessed with business and entrepreneurship. If she is not lecturing at some universities, she would be answering business questions from the public via videos or blogging. She is about to start a PHD equivalent research with a local university (SG) studying the attributes and mindset of entrepreneurs.

She runs as CEO of a technological firm, but is an active investor owning several other start ups for the last six years. She authored several books, and appeared in multiple media newspapers & books. She has spoken at private events, universities and leading empowering women campaign with Singapore Committee of UN Women, and the face to Shiseido in 2014. She was a marketing ambassador to a SSA Consulting Group, and currently ambassador for World's First Food Bank in aid to combat hunger among the poor, and ambassador for international travel portal 'I am Battuta.' Leza was a judge at NUS Symposium in 2014 and involved in numerous round table panel discussion in polytechnics and ITEs. In 2014, she (then 28) was acknowledged as Singapore Youngest Business Guru and her story told in a publication "The Lady Boss" available in book stores.

On a personal note, Leza is a single mother of three children (homeschooled) and writes parenting blog as well to inspire the love of motherhood and entrepreneurship among mothers. A philanthropist, her charity organization conducts charity drives monthly. She loves Yoga, swims twice a day and a pescatarian.

Leza has written several books about business to share the tips and obstacles of running businesses. You can read her articles here through her blog or her LinkedIn Profile.

In this upclose & personal session, Leza will be personally sharing the real journey of capital fund raising, why it is necessary to grow ideas and how to manage investments as a growing company.

Here are the questions we will be addressing.

  • At what stage should you seek capital funding through equity sales or investment loans?

  • What are the difference between Angel Investors, VCs, shareholders, etc

  • How much should I raise the first time?

  • Where can I find my target investors?

  • How much equity must I consider to let go?

  • Who and how is my company's evaluation derived?

  • What are the options available for company owners?

  • What are the things VCs look at when deciding to fund?

  • What are the legalities around investment funding?

We will be inviting 1-2 other panel speakers who are investors, lawyers or VCs to share their insights about Capital Funding.
