Overview

A half-day in-person course covering some of the Treaty Reinsurance Concepts & Practices at an intermediate level.

COURSE OUTLINE:

[Part 1: Concepts]

Expands on the concepts explained in the Basic Reinsurance Concepts course covering in detail how distribution of risk, premiums and claims work in proportional treaties.

Introduces the concept of Reinstatement in non-proportional treaties and explains it’s working in detail, with examples

Explains how proportional and non-proportional treaties interact and how the scope, terms and conditions of proportional treaties influences those of the non-proportional treaties.


[Part 2: Practices]

Exercises for the participants covering the above. Participants will be provided with three exercises and will be divided into break-out groups. Participants are expected to complete the exercises and present their findings to the class.

By the end of this half-day course, participants will have acquired a good understanding of how different types of reinsurance treaties operate.


TARGET AUDIENCE :

(Re)insurance industry practitioners who are involved in reinsurance treaty operations or those in non-technical roles who have attended the Basic Reinsurance Concepts course and would like to acquire a deeper understanding of how reinsurance treaties operate.


TRAINER’S PROFILE:

Mr Shiva Iyer, Executive Director, Aon

Shiva has over 35 years of experience in the reinsurance industry both in India and in Singapore. His expertise spans almost all areas of the reinsurance business, namely underwriting; claims; accounting; reporting; compliance and general operations of a reinsurance company.

Currently, he is Executive Director in the Technical Advisory Services department of Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions, Singapore, which provides guidance and advice on all aspects of reinsurance within the ASEAN region; Korea and the Indian sub-continent.

Shiva has a Master’s degree in Commerce from the University of Bombay and is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India.
