About this event

Sambal (v., ancient Javanese): to destroy, to pulvarise.Tambal (v. , Bahasa Indonesia): to patch, to heal.

Sambal Tambal is a unique, multi-sensory event where fashion, folklore and food come together as media to deconstructing and reconstructing the act of love. Fashion designer Adel Ng (Muta Wear), in collaboration with storyteller Hafiz Rashid, will lead yout into an explorative spaces to unravel and rearrange broken pieces - physically, emotionally and psychologically.

Adel will guide you through a meditative, hands-on creative session—unraveling, patching, and reflecting on love, grief, and healing. Storyteller Hafiz Rashid will whisk you away with regional folktales, diving into the emotional threads of Batik Tambal. In the final act, a specially curated testing menu by Cahaya Kitchen will be served as we ground this healing journey in the here and now.

aNERDgallery is a Singapore-based art platform specialising in textile arts with a focus in Indonesian batik, which is a technique of decorating a piece of cloth through the repeated process of drawing patterns with a dye-resisting agent (wax). Their mission is to connect artists and collectors to uncover and to understand the rich culture, technological development and historical significance of this ancient art technique.
