WOMEN ON A MISSION (WOAM) cordially invite you to SANDS OF TIME, a charity event and photography exhibition.

The purpose of the evening is to raise awareness and funds for underprivileged and troubled women and girls in Singapore and Iran, but also to celebrate WOAM’s fifth year anniversary and share the team’s unique life experience of becoming the first all-female team in history to cross Iran’s Dasht-e-Lut desert on foot.

Date: Thursday, June 8, 2017, 7-11pm at Ola Beach Club on Sentosa Island, Singapore

Funds raised during this event will go to support two charities

The Sexual Assault Care Centre (SACC) is Singapore’s only specialised centre, supporting women who have been sexually assaulted. Established in 2011 by AWARE, Singapore’s leading gender equality advocacy group, SACC provides a drop-in-centre, counselling support, as well as legal information and advice to victims of sexual assault. Over the years, WOAM has continuously championed this vital lifeline for abused women in Singapore and has also partnered with AWARE on a global campaign called ‘WE CAN!’ - short for ‘We Can End All Violence Against Women’- making Singapore the 16th country to join the worldwide movement against gender violence.

The OMID Foundation is an organisation dedicated to strengthening the social, emotional, and economic competencies of disadvantaged young women in Iran, and which the team visited during their time in Tehran. The Foundation aims to provide young women with a sense of self-worth and with the opportunities to experience a full range of life options through self-empowerment, education and training.

On this special occasion, WOAM hopes to share their unique experience as a team travelling across the Dasht-e-Lut desert of Iran and help raise funds via the sale of limited edition large-scale pictures, taken during their unforgettable journey in Iran. The SANDS OF TIME event aims to transport guests to the Middle East so that they can experience first-hand the stories behind each of these unique pictures and share WOAM’s passion and respect for the beauty of the desert, while at the same time supporting the plight of women who have been subjected to violence and abuse.

Up to 200 guests will gather on the beach at sunset at Ola Beach Club, on Sentosa Island, Singapore, for a chance to soak up the hypnotic Persian culture and charm. The Desert-themed event will include traditional Persian cuisine, complete with authentic culinary specialties such as Lamb Koobideh, Shah Pasand Chicken, Kash Bademjan and Baklava. The entertainment will feature Fire dancers on the beach, Persian Bazaar corner to help transport our guests to the bustling markets of Tehran and a vibrant fashion show of Middle Eastern style kaftans by Kaprice organised by Carla Personal Styling; the evening promises to be a truly unique and unforgettable experience!

Ultimately, WOAM’s objective is to inspire women to leave their comfort zone, their families and homes for a certain period of time, while pushing their limits in an effort to rally support for a worthy cause. By trekking in challenging conditions such as in Iran’s Lut Desert, WOAM hopes to bring international attention to the need for societies, governments and corporations to get involved and help end violence against women. At the core of WOAM’s culture is a passion for adventure and a deep respect and love of nature. They seek to travel and explore the world, but most importantly, contribute to society, while advocating for the plight of abused women worldwide.

Tickets are priced at $200 ($160 for Early Birds) and can be purchased via this page.

The SANDS OF TIME event is made possible thanks to the generous support of our sponsors: Heart Media Group’s L’Officiel Magazine and Luxuo, Airstar, Ola Beach Club, Shabestan Restaurant, the Orientalist, Kabochon. Flenco and Lightfoot Travel.
