About this event
About the Event
The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement was signed between the 10 ASEAN Member States, China, Australia, Japan, Korea and New Zealand in November 2020. The largest Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to date, comprising 30% of world GDP and a third of global population, the RCEP promotes tariff elimination, common rules of origins and harmonized standards, and reduction of non-tariff barriers, among others. The RCEP has been described as the first ever FTA where China made commitments on e-commerce, and is expected to propel the potential for digital trade in the region.
This module aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of trade relationships between China and ASEAN by introducing them to key megatrends surrounding trade in the region, drawing attention to a recent trade agreement, the RCEP. In doing so, students better understand the potential for trade between ASEAN and China, particularly in the digital economy, and can explore future relevant opportunities for the China-ASEAN region.
The module is suitable for students of all backgrounds who are interested in learning more about ASEAN-China and/or exploring future job opportunities in China/ASEAN.
