About the Topic:

What is service design? What does a service design practice look like in local government? What are some practical tools and methods for using design in public services? This talk explores these questions in the context of the most deprived borough in London. It touches on how the service design approach can help improve government services and in turn improve the lives of residents.

About the Speaker:

Saumya Singhal is a Service Designer in a London borough Council called Barking and Dagenham. She works in a multi-disciplinary team called Insight and Innovation where, as the name suggests, they do research and analysis to generate actionable insights, and design and test innovative solutions.

She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art where she studied Service Design. She has previously worked as a researcher, and a UX designer for organisations both in the public and private sector. Saumya is passionate about social innovation and is constantly trying to evolve her practice to better achieve sustainable impact.
