WHEN IS ENOUGH, ENOUGH?The Performance of MeasurementIn building the city we love, how do we measure the unmeasurable?The Singapore Pavilion foregrounds architects and researchers whose practices aim to elicit agency, attachment, attraction, connection, freedom and inclusion, in the city. In examining design processes that work for these six goals, we uncover challenges and contradictions, bring to light methods of addressing diverse preferences and the conundrums that arise, reveal tensions between extreme positions as well as envisage potential spectrums in between. What measures do we have to take to live by our values? Join us for our online lecture sessions, Spatial Types in Local Contexts on 18 September 2021, Saturday, 10am-12nn CET, 4- 6pm SGT featuring <ul><li>The Venetian Townscape by Deborah Howard, University of Cambridge, Professor Emerita of Architectural History</li><li>Singapore Palimpsests by Johannes Widodo, National University of Singapore, Director of Architectural Conservation Programme</li></ul>Deborah Howard is Professor Emerita of Architectural History in the University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of St John&#x27;s College, Cambridge. She is a Fellow of the British Academy. Her principal research interests are the art and architecture of Venice and the Veneto; music and architecture; and the relationship between Italy and the Eastern Mediterranean. Her books include The Architectural History of Venice (1980, revised 2002), Venice &amp; the East (2000), Sound &amp; Space in Renaissance Venice (2009, with L. Moretti) and Venice Disputed (2011). Her forthcoming book on proto-industrial architecture in the Veneto is in press.Johannes Widodo is the director of the Graduate Programs in Architectural Conservation, and Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre for Asian Architectural and Urban Heritage in Melaka of the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore. He is the Executive Editor of JSEAA (Journal of Southeast Asian Architecture) at the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore He is the founder of mAAN (modern Asian Architecture Network), iNTA (International Network of Tropical Architecture), and mASEANa (modern ASEAN architecture) project/network. He also serves as a member of the Preservation of Sites and Monuments Advisory Board of the National Heritage Board of Singapore.This lecture session is part of the <a href="https://to-gather.sg/event/cavsworkshop/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cinematic Architecture: Venice and Singapore </a>workshop running from the 17 - 24 September 2021 led in collaboration by the Singapore Pavilion and the University of Cambridge.Registration is free and open to the public.
