Guided Stories at the Human Story Book World Café
Stories that Break Walls, Voices that Build Community
Breaking silence, restoring dignity.
Stigma isolates, shames, and silences — too often pushing people toward suicide and leaving families broken. Across cultures, mental health struggles are hidden behind physical pain or denied as weakness, while silence deepens the wounds.
The Human Story Book breaks that silence. By amplifying lived voices, we confront stigma, restore dignity, and show families that recovery is possible. These stories expose root causes — poverty, discrimination, violence — and spark resilience. Healing is not just clinical; it is cultural, communal, and deeply human.
Our Guest of Honour: Dr Joachim Lee, PBM
Dr Joachim Lee, PBM is a senior psychotherapist, trauma specialist, and founder of Neuro-Therapy (No Trauma Therapy Centre), with over 23 years of experience in counselling, leadership, and family services. He previously served as Director of MWS–Tampines Family Service Centre for more than a decade, where he pioneered community programmes and supported vulnerable families, and later took on leadership roles at Eagles Mediation & Counselling Centre. A Clinical Member and Clinical Supervisor with the Singapore Association for Counselling, Dr Lee is also an international trainer and the creator of the Brain-Switch 2.0® approach to trauma recovery. At THSB, he brings deep expertise in translating neuroscience into compassionate, practical strategies that break stigma, restore dignity, and strengthen community healing.
Izzah Malik
Ms. Izzah’s story is one of courage, resilience, and hope. She has bravely faced the challenges of depression and schizophrenia, and today she channels those experiences into her work as a Peer Support Specialist. With a Diploma in Food & Beverage Business and specialised training in peer support, she has transformed her struggles into strength and purpose. Her mission is simple yet powerful — to walk alongside others on their recovery journeys. Izzah believes recovery is not a destination but an ongoing journey, and no one should ever have to walk it alone. Through empathy and encouragement, she reminds us that healing and growth are always possible.
Lee Shermin
Shermin holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, where she honed her skills in media production and storytelling through an internship with Channel NewsAsia’s Current Affairs team. Currently with HappyHeartHub, she channels her creativity and communication skills into meaningful community work that uplifts others.
Motherhood became a defining chapter in Shermin’s journey, reshaping her path with resilience, adaptability, and the value of authentic connection. These life lessons now guide her writing and advocacy, where she blends professional expertise with lived experience. As a blogger, writer, and mental health advocate, Shermin uses her voice to share stories of hope, healing, and growth—reminding others that strength often emerges through vulnerability.
