As the emerging generation faces smaller family units migration and more women in the workforce there is a shift from informal to formal care for the ecosystem to come together to think of new models of care. The session looks at the multiple and evolving roles of caregivers to persons with dementia and the impact of assuming these roles on caregivers’ health and well-being. It describes the journey of a person with dementia, the dynamic nature of caregiving over time, the emerging generation and changing needs of family caregivers, and the increasing complexity and scope of caregiver responsibilities.

Melissa Chan is the Head of Community and Outreach at Homage. She is also the Founder of Project We Forgot, a network for caregivers to persons with dementia. In addition, Melissa is a Steering Group Member of the World Young Leaders in Dementia Network, driving the development of innovative dementia solutions across disciplines and borders, in Asia Pacific. Melissa’s love of storytelling and problem solving has helped her build a strong and varied experience in social innovation, community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and building brand strategies for finance, hospitality, travel, and technology sectors.
