About this event

How can we use ‘listening’ as a tool to consider the ways in which sound impacts our environment? Artist Huijun Lu invites you to capture field recordings of noise in and around Battlebox, a bunker nestled within Fort Canning Park. The workshop aims to motivate you to take in and become aware of the sounds you hear in their immediate surroundings. Within these 2 hours, you will also be introduced to the practice of Deep Listening and how artists create and utilise field recordings in their works.

Open to young explorers age 11-18 years old! This workshop will take place both outdoors (Fort Canning Park) and indoors (Battlebox). Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes for walking, bottled water and bring a smartphone or any device with a voice recording tool.

This workshop is a programme complementary to Portals, an innovative visual arts exhibition that bridges Singapore's wartime history with creative technology at the Battlebox. This workshop and Portals are programmes of cmd.exe ("command prompt"), a new platform that explores the convergence of heritage and creative technology.

The exhibition runs from 28 March to 29 June 2025. More details of the exhibition, and its public programmes can be found at cmdexe.art.
