...recite the Quran slowly and distinctly - Al-Muzzamil, 73:4
The recitation of the Qur'an is a science within itself. The language within it is nuanced in its complexity, yet highly technical. For someone to master reading the Qur'an correctly, and to accord the rights and honour that the Qur'an deserves, it is essential for every Muslim to learn and understand Tajwid, and the Science and Methodology of reading the Qur'an with the correct pronunciations and intonations.
Tajwid is essentially a set of rules that defines how every letter in the Qur'an is correctly pronounced. It is an enhancement of your Qur'an reading skills that will move your Qur'anic reading skills into the realm of excellence, Insha'Allah.
Mastery of Tajwid will ensure the correct harmonic melody in reading the Qur'an is faithfully reproduced. Reading the Qur'an without understanding Tajwid could result in inept reading skills that could impact on the language of the Qur'an and inadvertently alter the grammar and its associated meanings.
Thereby the pursuit of correct Tajwid in reading the Qur'an should be an endeavour all intermediate Qur'an readers should embark upon in seeking to improve their Qur'an reading skills and, ultimately, further improve their spirituality and closeness to Allah Almighty Insha'Allah.
This course is open to intermediate readers of the Qur'an. Participants are expected to have mastered basic Qur'anic reading skills, and are able to read the Qur'an on their own.
This class will be led by Ustadh Abla, a native-Arabic speaker of Morrocan descent, and will be predominantly delivered in English with a slight spattering of Malay.
Students of this class will gain greater understanding of the needs and rights of the Qur’an and develop a deeper love and appreciation for the Holy Qur’an, and further inculcate and augment their Qur'an reading skills as they continue to hone the lifelong habit of regular Qur’an reading Insha’Allah.
