Society of Tourist Guides (Singapore) was started in 2003 by a group of trainer guides with guiding experience between 18 to 30 years.The Society held its first International Tourist Guide Day (ITGD) event on 21 February 2004, with member guides offering free walking tours in Chinatown, Emerald Hill, Singapore River, Fort Canning and many more.

ITGD has been celebrated ever since at various site including Esplanade Park, Sentosa, Singapore Botanic Gardens, National Museum of Singapore, National Gallery Singapore, Asian Civilisation Museum etc. 

The Society works closely with Singapore Tourism Board and other industry partners to promote the professionalism of tourist guides as the Tourism Ambassadors of Singapore.
