Join us in our annual Inter-Varsity Debate between NUS and SUTD Architecture Students and Profs on 8th July (Sat)!

The Inter-Varsity Debate is an annual event for students, professors and practitioners to engage in conversation about relevant issues within the architectural field, to listen to new ideas and perspectives, and to reflect on how these insights impacts one as an architect, educator, or student.The debate hopes to encourage the architecture community to remain critical of emerging trends and stances in academia and profession, with the exchange of ideas across parties creating a vibrant community.This year's debate will feature a team from NUS and SUTD which each features students and a Professor.Motion:“Honouring the heritage of buildings in Singapore can only be done through preserving them.”More than just mere physical structure, architecture represents the identity, culture and history of a place and its people. In Singapore, a city-state with a rich history and cultural heritage, architecture reflects the diverse influences of its past, from colonial buildings to modern skyscrapers. The debate over preserving heritage buildings in Singapore is complex and multifaceted. It involves balancing the need to honour Singapore's heritage and cultural identity with the need for innovation and development. The question then arises of how this balance can be created and what indeed best honours the heritage of the architecture in Singapore.Sides each side will be taking:Proposition - SUTDOpposition - NUS<h3>Event Details </h3>Date: 8th July 2023 (Saturday)Time: 1:30 - 4:30 pmVenue: SDE 3 Exhibition Space (Level 1)
