TEDxNTU is the flagship event of NTU World of Wisdom, where we bring to you ideas and stories  worth sharing from Singapore with a different theme and lineup of speakers each year.

We are living in the hegemony of speed. From that quick tap on the coffee machine each morning, to the fast-churning machinery in factories and vaccines developed in record time — speed prides itself as the name of the game. Are there perhaps things that we overlook in the constant pursuit of a fast pace? Or are there perhaps things that must be re-examined, or even reset? The answers to these questions often begin with a pause. A pause may seem to hinder our journey, but it is a necessity to bring us further and stronger. Pausing is the key to unlocking a set of subsequent actions. Hence, pausing can be the first step to achieving progress. This can be applied to various levels, often beginning with the one closest to everyone — the self. For individuals, pausing could offer cognitive and emotional benefits with the rejuvenation of the mind and soul. As part of a larger community, pausing allows us to assess, advocate and address the needs of minority segments in society, and to eventually progress towards greater social inclusivity and cohesiveness. In pursuit of progress, pausing also helps to reassess the status quo by re-examining existing standards of progress. Though we constantly try to be “better” in the ways we live, study and work, we often forget some important questions: how are we defining progress? “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to reform (or pause and reflect).” ― Mark Twain Thus, at TEDxNTU 2022, we would like to explore the following questions: • Why is it important to pause? • What areas need to be paused? • Where could the pause lead us to? • How do we define progress? • How do we eventually achieve progress by pausing? Although the pathway to progress can be challenging, many are acting now. Their efforts deserve to be seen and their voices heard. In this year’s edition of TEDxNTU, we aim to bring onboard thinkers, leaders, and practitioners from different walks of life, to share ideas that illuminate the pathway from Pause to Progress.
