Step into the world of batik like never before. This curated series of talks and workshops invite you to explore batik through journeys, style, inquiry, legacy, and promise. Meet batik researchers, batik collectors and batik lovers as they share their stories, uncover hidden histories, and reveal the threads that connect past, present, and future. See, touch, and experience batik - each session is an invitation to engage, learn, and be inspired by the cloth and the stories it carries.
[This event is organised in conjuction with Hari Batik Nasional, or National Batik Day, celebrated in Indonesia every year on October 2nd. It marks the day in 2009 when UNESCO recognized batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
On this day, Indonesians are encouraged to wear batik - honouring its history, artistry, and cultural significance, while supporting efforts to keep the tradition alive for future generations.
At Baju by Oniatta, we stand alongside our neighbours in commemorating this important day, as we continue to share and celebrate the beauty of batik across borders.]
