About this event
About The Biodiversity Collective
TBC stands for The Biodiversity Collective series. TBC plays on "To Be Continued" as we believe that biodiversity must be continued for generations, and that it's also not just something for experts/researchers to understand. But the learnings must continue for everyone because biodiversity is the bedrock of society!

☕The Biodiversity Kopitiam: Sip & Learn
Kopitiam Edition: The Biodiversity Kopitiam allows attendees to Lim Kopi (Drink Coffee), and learn about various topics of biodiversity through 3 main segments.
The Biodiversity Kopitiam is hosted at a local cafe, to sip & learn about our local biodiversity, over small group coffee chats with a leading Biodiversity expert.
Topics can range from specific wildlife, research papers, nature experiences, advocacy and much more! Each TBC Kopitiam has its own unique theme.
14th October:
Conserving Biodiversity and Conservation Projects Around Us
For this edition of TBC Kopitiam, we zoom in on the incredible people and organizations who are working at the frontlines of conserving our biodiversity. When we talk about conservation, we often think of tree-planting or protecting endangered animals. But conserving biodiversity is a much broader mission, as it’s about safeguarding interconnected ecosystems, engaging local communities, influencing policy, and holding space for cultural wisdom and youth leadership.
We do a round-table kopitiam style where attendees can choose up to 2 tables to rotate around and hear a speaker share their Biodiversity Insights & Knowledge for 20 minutes at a time, and rotate to your next table.
Your Kopi Stall speakers
Adam Reutens-Tan, Pan Pacific Conservation Foundation
Topic: Conservation in Indonesia
Ask Adam anything about peatlands conservation work done in Kalimantan and Riau, as well as mangrove restoration in East Java. Learn how environmental conservation leads to climate action and community empowerment.
About: Adam Reutens-Tan is a personal and professional sustainability advocate. From secondary school research projects on climate change and macaques, through being StarHub's first sustainability advocate, he now champions the conservation message at Pan Pacific Conservation Foundation. His work involves managing conservation work in the region and catalysing public climate action locally here in Singapore.
Dr. Sadaf, Director of Studies at RVRC, NUS
Kopi Topic: Towards Urban–Ecological Symbiosis for a City in Nature.
The talk will focus on the integration of natural ecosystems into urban environments towards creating mutual benefits for both humans and nature, moving beyond a contrast between cities and nature to a state of interdependence. Using examples of public spaces that serve as crucial shared civic amenities, the discussion will extend to the design possibilities for naturalizing urban green spaces, while fostering collaboration among key stakeholders to achieve resilient, biodiverse, and sustainable solutions.
About: Sadaf is the Director of Studies at Ridge View Residential College (NUS), where she teaches urban sustainability, placemaking, and built heritage using experiential formats. An accomplished outdoor educator, she has received multiple university teaching awards. She also leads curriculum design, building collaborations with institutional and industry partners to deepen youth engagement in sustainability. A licensed architect, Sadaf earned her Bachelor of Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture (India) and a Master’s in Architecture and Urban Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her professional experience spans architecture and master planning at the intersection of urban design and landscape, with a sustained focus on placemaking and sustainability.
Kai Ting Yeo, Founder of Studio Elephant Tales
Kopi Topic: Seeing Nature - Her adventures in the Artic and Botswana, Nature stories in the Cold poles & Desert landscapes.
About: Kai Ting is a science and environment storyteller and conservationist. With more than a decade in television and radio as a journalist, she has produced content across breaking news, social issues, politics, and policy for international broadcasters such as Channel NewsAsia and Money FM 89.3.
Her work has taken her into the field, crafting narratives that spotlight biodiversity, climate challenges, and the human stories behind conservation efforts. Kai Ting is also experienced in guiding policymakers and global leaders through insightful interviews.
Currently pursuing a Master of Science in Wildlife Ecology & Conservation with a concentration in wildlife forensics & conservation, Kai Ting brings a scientific lens to storytelling, driven by the belief that powerful stories can inspire action - and that conservation begins with connection.
