三字经 3 WORDS, REPEAT.

Living with dementia is living in the present and the past, all at once.

“三字经 3 Words, Repeat.” is about a real-life father and daughter duo reflecting on who they were and who they are at this point of their shared journey navigating through dementia. Through the honest act of theatre-making, they will learn to truly listen and lean on each other.

To recall, reclaim and relinquish the parallel journeys of a liberal, laughter-filled childhood and a challenging, unorthodox parenthood. They will switch, shift and shatter the identities of caregiver and care-receiver, whilst confronting the questions laid bare by this disease:

Is it really possible to just concede and not argue with dementia?
To forgive and forget past mistakes and misfortune?
To repeat every new day without a recurring sense of loss?

About the artistes:

Grace Lee Khoo is the Founder and Creative Development Director of Access Path Productions. A UK-trained applied theatre practitioner, she completed her Master’s Degree in Applied Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2016. An Honours graduate from the National University of Singapore’s Theatre Studies programme in 2009, she also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education (Singapore). In 2017, Grace was an international artist-in-residence at Graeae Theatre Company (London) – UK’s flagship disability-led inclusive theatre company.

Grace works internationally as a performer, director, dramaturg, researcher and educator. Her most signficant project to date is ‘And Suddenly I disappear: The Singapore-UK ‘d’ Monologues’ where she served as associate producer and performer. The international production about disability, diversity and difference between the 2 countries premiered in Singapore, opened at the Southbank Centre in London and toured the U.K.

Tan Tok @ Khoo Kwang Tok is a retired business man who spent a big part of Grace’s childhood working in Vietnam and other regional countries. He is an avid reader and book collector who enjoys the theatre, playing the harmonica, and having coffee with his merry band of high school mates. He also reads the Lian He Zao Bao 联合早报religiously. He currently lives with his elder daughter, Grace and was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2018. He is making his theatre debut with 3 Words, Repeat. Previous theatre experience includes playing a singing and dancing Field Mouse 田鼠 in a school fundraiser at Happy World in the 50s.

Access Path Productions is a social enterprise that initiates theatrical and cultural events, excavates narratives of the marginalized and provides disability arts and awareness training.
