Talk No:1 . "The Role of Innospec Additives in Supporting
Decarbonization in the Marine Sector"
by Max Fok, Innospec Ltd
Abstract
As the shipping industry faces increasing regulatory pressure and rapidly evolving fuel standards — transitioning from high-sulfur fuel oil (HSFO) to low-sulfur fuel oil (LSFO), Biofuels, and other alternative fuels — maintaining performance, compliance, and sustainability has become more complex. This presentation will explore how Innospec’s advanced fuel additive technologies play a critical role in enabling this transition. By enhancing fuel stability, improving combustion efficiency, and reducing emissions, Innospec additives offer proven solutions that support the decarbonization goals of the maritime sector while ensuring operational reliability across a wide range of fuel types.
About the Speaker
Max Fok is the Area Sales Manager and Market Specialist at Innospec Limited, supporting marine customers across the Asia Pacific region with advanced fuel treatment technologies designed to improve performance, reduce emissions, and support sustainability objectives. Based in Singapore, Max joined Innospec in 2022 and brings nearly a decade of experience across shipboard engineering and marine service support.
Talk No:2. "Marine Biofuels - Regulatory Perspective",
by Ashish Anilan, Assistant Director, Bureau Veritas
Abstract
Since the last MEPC80, the IMO’s GHG strategy has undergone a dramatic shift toward ambitious goals, bringing the international shipping decarbonization trajectory closer to the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Besides intermediate milestones that will be instrumental in meeting the GHG budget, the aim of reaching net-zero GHG emissions by around 2050 sets the course for the decades to come.
Although clear and aspirational objectives are now adopted, the route toward net zero remains very challenging, and the whole range of solutions available to decarbonise the shipping industry will have to face significant uptake and a continuous growth rate until 2050. However, practical steps exist and surely play an instrumental role in speeding up the adoption and robustness of solutions.
Among the readily accessible solutions, many industry stakeholders vote for the broader adoption of biofuels. Biofuels offer numerous advantages, provided that challenges such as sustainability, performance, GHG emissions savings, and traceability can be overcome. The purpose of this presentation is to provide an understanding of current requirements and the state of play surrounding biofuel for use in maritime transportation.
About the Speaker
Ashish brings over 15 years of experience in developing technology-driven marine projects across Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Currently, as Assistant Director and Sustainability Leader at Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, he spearheads strategic initiatives for the region's sustainability and energy transition for maritime and adjoining sectors.
Ashish leads projects and partnerships through BV's Future Shipping Team (FST) initiative. He is a passionate and results-oriented leader, combining his expertise in business development, technical leadership, and project management. Ashish actively represents the organization in various trade associations and industry coalitions.
