Most Chinatown tours focus on the touristy side. Our tour today will focus on the other side, where few tourists go to. We will explore the route less taken. This is the last example of the old world at Chinatown.
We begin at Pagoda Street, but we’ll cross over to The Majestic and The Great Southern Hotel for a really good look at both of these conserved buildings. From here on, we’ll be able to feel (and see) the last of the remnants of the old world. The demographics and the merchandise seem to match each other.
By now, most of us know Red Star is just about the only restaurant still serving their dim sum with the push cart trolley. If you were a visiting tourist, you should really come on this tour and see the real ole “old” Chinatown. Even the uncles and aunties here seem to look older (when actually they are not so old).
We meet on the 14th September 2025 (SUNDAY), 9am at Chinatown MRT. Go in the direction of Exit A, take the escalator up and meet me between the UOB and POSB teller machines, (next to the restrooms).
This tour will end at Red Star Restaurant. You can decide to take your lunch here, or you can also do lunch at the very affordable hawker center where prices are designed for the real Bonafide Chinatown dwellers. You will like the prices. My choice will be Red Star for the real authentic touch with real nostalgia all thrown in for free!
