About this event

Autism is a developmental condition that affects individuals in the way they communicate, form relationships, and interact with others. Autism may also affect the individual’s learning and information processing styles. Having a good understanding of autism is the first step and the key to planning support for and communicating more effectively with individuals on the autism spectrum.

This workshop aims to increase awareness of individuals who are interested in learning more about autism and how it feels to live with this condition. Through a series of specially organised experiential activities, this workshop provides an opportunity for participants to have a sense of how it feels to be on the autism spectrum.

Participants will acquire a fundamental understanding of:

➢ key characteristics of autism

➢ how autism affects the individual’s experiences, interpretation of the world and learning

➢ some simple points to note when communicating with individuals on the autism spectrum

Upon completion of the training workshop, participants will be able to:

✓ appreciate the different ways in which individuals with autism perceive the world

✓ learn some basic facts about autism

✓ experience some characteristics of autism through hands on activities
