In a world that seems increasingly connected on the surface, we seem to be drifting away from each other. We communicate via WhatsApp and Telegram, keep up with each other’s lives via Instagram and TikTok, and find our partners through Hinge and Bumble. But in reality, all we’re really doing is scrolling through a screen the size of our palm. Real connection—whether we realise it or not—has been slowly slipping away, and loneliness is becoming more and more prevalent.
But is this really all there is to life? Somehow, I still believe that our souls crave and are capable of deeper connection. There is something about sitting side by side around a table, almost touching, sharing vulnerable and lighthearted moments, that cannot be replaced by technology. It is the magic of being together that we have forgotten.
A little while back, I had one such encounter with a newfound friend. Over an evening at @casualpoetlibrary, @whatmaisiesaid and I shared an open, genuine connection that honestly caught us both by surprise. We exchanged perspectives and reflected on the challenges and assumptions placed on both genders in today’s world. That’s when we realised there’s still a gap between the genders (and all humans, really)—and we found ourselves wondering how we might begin to bridge that gap, creating more space for curiosity, understanding, and connection.
On 30th May, we’d like to invite you to join our cosy gathering of humans at @174bingo, and to bring your curiosity and openness to our communal table over drinks and nibbles. We’ll be holding safe space in our conversation circle for all stories from both genders, and building the deep and authentic connection (the best kind!) we all really want. There’ll also be a form where you can share your questions beforehand, so that you can satisfy your curiosity but still stay anonymous if you prefer to.
