In this enriching 2-hour Tile Painting Workshop, participants will create their own hand-painted ceramic tile inspired by either Singapore motifs or Peranakan tile designs. The session begins with a short introduction to the history and visual language of traditional Peranakan tiles and iconic Singapore landmarks, exploring how colours, symbols, and architecture reflect the nation’s cultural identity. Participants will be shown a curated set of Singapore visual references—including shophouses, the Merlion, tropical flora like orchids, and local patterns—which they will use as inspiration to develop their own unique tile design. Guided step-by-step, they will sketch their ideas and learn basic ceramic painting techniques to bring their designs to life. Those opting for the Peranakan theme will delve into symmetrical floral motifs and vintage colour palettes, while those choosing the Singapore motif theme will incorporate modern urban and cultural elements. With individual guidance throughout, each participant will complete a beautifully painted tile to take home—a personal interpretation of Singapore’s vibrant heritage through the medium of tile art.
