Timothy Heng - On the Frontline

Hollandse ClubSingapore
Thursday, Mar 26, 2026 from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Overview

Singaporean anti-poaching ranger Timothy Heng shares his experience of frontline wildlife conservation work in the African Savanna.

RGS-Singapore presents: "On the Frontline – Lessons from Anti-Poaching Ranger Training in South Africa", featuring Singaporean anti-poaching ranger Timothy Heng!

In 2023, Timothy took part in an anti-poaching ranger training programme in South Africa, gaining first-hand insight into the realities of frontline conservation work. Set in challenging environments of the African Savanna, where preparation and decision-making are critical, the training offered a rare look at the physical, mental, and ethical demands placed on the rangers tasked with protecting wildlife. Timothy was the first Singaporean and Asian participant to successfully complete the course and graduate as an anti-poaching ranger.

In this talk, Timothy will share behind-the-scenes stories from the training, including first-hand accounts of what patrols in active conservation areas really look like. He will also reflect on how the experience reshaped his understanding of conservation, shifting the focus away from sharing interesting content online towards taking more direct action on the ground.
