Tocha: A Japanese Tea Party

By Parchmen & Co

Overview

A sensory experience of 5 Japanese teas, conducted by the director of promotion of Japanese Saitama teas

Tōcha : the brew-tea-ful game

Have you heard about a Japanese tea game called Tōcha? Tōcha has its roots in medieval Japan and originated as a game where participants taste various teas and try to determine which are from Uji (true tea) and other areas of Japan (fake tea).

Parchmen & Co will be organising a modern form of the Tōcha game. In this game, we will be focusing on various single origin teas from Sayama and learning how sencha made from different cultivars have different notes (participants who can guess all the blind samples correctly will get an additional prize as well!).

Guiding us along the way will be Kajishima Kunie san (梶島邦江), director from NPO Agriculture Support Team in Saitama (狭山SINGLE ORIGIN TEA普及促進協議会, 代表, NPO法人, 埼玉農業おうえんしたい, 代表理事), a group dedicated to promoting Sayama (狭山) tea.
