Class structure

0. Pre-Class Preparation (5 minutes)

• Materials Setup:

o Four Treasures of the Study:

Writing brush, ink, Xuan paper (rice paper), felt pad, paperweight, inkstone

• Mental Guidance:

o Play music to create a meditative atmosphere

o Breathing adjustment exercise

1. Introduction & Foundational Knowledge (15 minutes)

• Brief Cultural Overview (5 minutes):

o Evolution of Chinese script styles:

Oracle Bone Script → Seal Script → Clerical Script → Regular/Running/Cursive Scripts

o Symbolism of Four Treasures: Spiritual significance of brush/ink/paper/inkstone

• Tool Demonstration (10 minutes):

o Five-Finger Brush Holding Method + correcting common posture errors

o Ink control: Adjusting density, brush-tip shaping techniques

o Paper characteristics: Differences between raw and processed Xuan paper

2. Core Techniques Instruction (30 minutes)

• Eight Principles of Yong (20 minutes):

o Key strokes:

Horizontal (Heng), Vertical (Shu Nu),

Slanting (Pie), Pressing (Na)

o Interactive practice: Air-writing to internalize stroke rhythm

• Structural Principles (10 minutes):

o "Central Axis Tightening" rule demonstration

o Comparative analysis of some character structures

o Step-by-step instructor demonstration of "永" (Yong) and "和" (He)

(via projector + live writing)

o Writing few words

o Composition guidance: Character spacing, text flow, and signature placement

4. Calligraphy Round Fan Crafting (35 minutes)

• Creative Mounting Process:

o Attach calligraphy paper (with inscribed poem) and dried flowers onto round fan

• Cultural Integration:

o Historical significance of poetry fans in Chinese literati culture
