UN GCMYB Business Stakeholders Consultation to input into Malaysia’s 2021 Voluntary National Review Report on SDGs Progress

About this event

This is a consultation session for UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei's (UN GCMYB) Business Stakeholders to input into Malaysia’s 2021 Voluntary National Review Report on SDGs Progress.

This session is organised by UN GCMYB, who is a member of the Voluntary National Review (VNR) Technical Working Committee.

Malaysia has long been an advocate of sustainable development both domestically and internationally, where its commitment is consistently enshrined within its policies and its five-year development plans (e.g., 11th Malaysian Plan). This year, as a continuation of its last Voluntary National Review (VNR) in 2017, the Malaysian government has volunteered to continue its periodical report on the progress of the SDG 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development. The VNRs are expected to provide relevant data on the SDGs at the country level, enabling Governments and other stakeholders to undertake evidence-based measures to catalyse accelerated progress.

The theme of Malaysia’s VNR 2021 is “Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID 19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development: building an inclusive and effective path for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development” and the review is slated to be presented at the High-Level Political Forum in New York in July 2021.

The SDGs focus areas for VNR 2021 include: -

  • Goal 1 No Poverty
  • Goal 2 Zero Hunger
  • Goal 3 Good Health and Well-being
  • Goal 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • Goal 10 Reduce Inequality
  • Goal 12 Responsible Consumption & Production
  • Goal 13 Climate Action
  • Goal 16 Peace & Justice, Strong Institutions
  • Goal 17 Partnerships to Achieve the Goals

Key discussion themes of the consultation:

  • How are business actors contributing towards achieving the SDGs in Malaysia?
  • What are the key MSMEs and Corporate initiatives that have been scaled?
  • What are the impacts of SDG related initiatives by businesses in Malaysia?
  • How can businesses enhance their role as key SDGs contributors?

* Private Sector SDG Contribution Report will be submitted as consideration to further enhance Malaysia’s VNR Report 2021.

This session will be conducted via Zoom. The link and calendar invite will be sent out upon successful registration.
