Future of Singapore,FOSG,is acitizen’sforum, a genuineeffortby concerned citizens to contribute to the constructive, evidence-based, non-partisan public debate on key issues concerning our future like the economy, social and global industrial policy, education, the arts, our regional environment, entrepreneurship, urban planning and land use, amongst other subjects.Curated by veteran urban planner, architect and public intellectual Tay Kheng Soon who has contributed to urban planning helped by a team of concerned citizenswho form FOSG.FOSG hopes to stimulate better understanding of the real issues facing Singapore today and in future.CO-HOSTED by The Wee Kim Wee Centre of SMUThe Wee Kim Wee Centre of SMU is dedicated to promoting cross-cultural and inter-disciplinary dialogue within the SMU community and with the public about the major issues and challenges that attend to contemporary life. The late President Wee Kim Wee, after whom the Wee Kim Wee Centre in Singapore Management University is named, understood the value of critical dialogue between alternative perspectives, social and cultural diversity, civic engagement, and lifelong learning. It is in honour of these values and commitments that the Centre hosts and supports lectures, conferences, and publications. These aim to advance learning and thinking about major cross-cultural issues for all who appreciate the need for a profound appreciation of the similarities and the differences that mark our common humanity.The Wee Kim Wee Centre is also a key partner of SMU’s newCore Curriculum. We believe in nurturing the capabilities of our students to meet the challenges of tomorrow, in dialoguing and interacting with the communities around us, and publicly addressing and engaging with the pressing questions that confront humanity. The Office of Core Curriculum and the Wee Kim Centre stand united in the view that the boundaries between the classroom, boardroom, and public square are fluid and porous, and that the academic mission of the university is enhanced and best championed when informed by sustained and critical public engagement.

<DIV><SPAN>Do solutions to our problems always have to make use of the latest technology? In our aim to achieve water self-sufficiency, are water desalination and wastewater reclamation (via Newater) the final solution? Or do we have other simpler and less expensive options? In this talk, Chen Ko will explore some “old technologies” in rainwater harvesting and grey water recycling based on his experiences and knowledge in his professional work.</SPAN></DIV>

<DIV><SPAN>Chen Ko is currently lecturing in Singapore Polytechnic and has been in the area of environment and water since 1998. Besides teaching these topics in the polytechnic to both full time students and working adults, he has worked on various projects on water quality with Nparks and PUB.
