WHAT?

In this watercolour beginners’ course, participants will learn the basic techniques of watercolour painting, working on different themes, so that they can not only paint with confidence, but also have fun and joy at the same time as they engage in this therapeutic art form.  

 

Course Objectives  

Participants will learn the basic techniques of watercolour painting, working on different themes, so that they can not only paint with confidence, but also have fun and joy at the same time as they engage in this therapeutic art form.  

 

Course Outline  

Session 1:

Introduction to types of brushes, pen, watercolour, papers. To practice holding, brush, and basic glazing and layering techniques.  

Session 2:

Learn the concepts of Chiaroscuro (Light versus Dark ) in watercolour. Glazing a still life set up (dramatic lighting) with one basic Colour  

Session 3:

Learn the concept of Colour temperature with watercolour. Glazing a still life set up with Complementary colours.  

Session 4: 

Learn Wet-on-Wet technique. Painting clouds and landscape with Wet-Wet Technique. 

Session 5:

Learn Ink and wash technique. Combining pen and watercolour to generate interesting textures in different subjects. Sketching and painting an Urban landscape with Ink and wash technique.  

Session 6:

Learn the dry brush technique for textures on Trees and animals. Painting textures of trees and plants with dry brush techniques.  

Session 7:

Learn how to paint water and reflection with a simple seascape scene. Painting a local seascape scene.  

Session 8:

Learn how to paint a flower. Combining previous methods taught to paint a flower.  

 

Learning Outcome:

1.Appreciate and understand the watercolour medium  

2.Ability in painting different themes with watercolour  

3.Understand light and shadow of water colouring  

4.Ability in creating watercolour painting with texture

*Art Materials are included in the ticket price 

*Participants can also prepare newspaper and cloth for their own usage. The newspaper helps prevent accidental dirtying of the tables and the cloths will allow you to clean the brushes given to you. 

Trainer Profile:

Erwin has more than a decade of lecturing experiences in local institutions. He specializes in Tradition and Digital Art foundation and is an expert with live demonstrations. His drawings and paintings have been featured in various publications, including The Artist’s Magazine, The Modern Met and Watercolor Artist. Apart from teaching, he also engages in commissioned work and have completed projects for clients that included NUS, Royal Bhutan Airlines, Drukasia and Bank of Singapore. In 2014 and 2015, he raised more than USD$100,000 via two crowdfunding campaigns to create The Perfect Sketchbook, a premium watercolor sketchbook meant for professional artists. Erwin has also lectures at SUTD, NTU, Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Polytechnic. 

Course Fee:

$280 |$56 for seniors eligible for National Silver Academy (NSA) subsidy*  

*NSA subsidy is for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 50 and above.  

In addition to NSA subsidy, course fee may be offset by SkillsFuture Credit (SFC).  

First, course participants are to make payment for the course through Brahm Centre Eventbrite page.  

They should claim with SFC before the course start date through the SkillsFuture portal.  

Brahm Centre will reimburse the amount that is successfully claimed upon receipt of the funds from SFC.  

Notes:  

Please note that payments for courses are non-refundable.  

There are no make-up lessons if you miss any session.  

If you miss the first session, you are allowed to proceed with the course. However, the trainer is not obligated to do a recap during the second session.
