About the Topic:
Designing for sustainability is for people interested in working with complex global issues. It is about understanding the difference between ‘green’ and sustainable design. It is a design approach that aims to reduce the negative impact of design on the planet.
Whether you are a graphic designer, systems designer, animator, filmmaker or architect, no matter your educational or professional background, you learn to investigate and question your discipline in relation to the global systems you inhabit. Looking at the environment, materiality, empathy, ethics and justice within broad and dynamic socio-cultural, economic and political contexts, designing sustainably makes the world a more thoughtful place.
About the Speaker:
Preksha Bokaria is currently pursuing her MA in Design for Sustainability at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). While working for over 3 years in the graphic and advertising field, she soon realized her interest in designing for durability, longevity, and most importantly designing for behaviour change. She aspires to enter the world of visual design and research and integrate it with sustainability. When she is not thinking about how to change the world through design, one can find her planning her next meal or dreaming about her next trip.
