About this event

  • 15 hours

For thousands of years, men have gathered together to learn and share stories about what it means to be a man. However, in recent times this practice has been lost. As a result, we are more disconnected from ourselves, others and from nature than ever before. Chronic disconnection, negative stereotypes and an ever changing social landscape is leading men to be the biggest killers of themselves (7/9 daily suicides are of men in Australia) and of their loved ones. Not to mention the loneliness epidemic we are facing here in Australia.

This is why I have decided to create and offer a fortnightly Men's Circle surrounded by nature in Smith's Gully. This will be sacred time for a group of 8 dedicated men to gather and share stories, heal, grow and support one another, so that we can be the men ourselves, our mates, our families, our partners, and our communities need us to be.

When?

We will gather fortnightly, starting on June 7th from 6:30pm-9:30pm.

We will gather 7 times across the 3 winter months, finishing off our experience with an in-depth 2 night retreat.

(Address given upon confirmation)*

Dates:

June 7th

June 21th

July 5th

July 19th

August 2nd

August 16th

August 30th - September 1st (2 night retreat)

What to expect?

You can expect each circle to include:

  • Check-in circle.
  • Breathwork and meditation practices.
  • Embodiment activities.
  • Connection exercises.
  • Time for introspection and reflection.
  • Time to connect and relax by the fire.

Each gathering will be underpinned by a theme. Such themes will include:

  • Our relationship to ourselves.
  • Roles and responsibilities of being a man.
  • Our relationship to the masculine & feminine.
  • Our relationship to emotions such as anger and grief.
  • Our relationship to our parents.

These themes will guide our conversations and practices on the night, and are aimed at highlighting parts of our being that we may not have looked at before, while in a supportive space. Although these circles will be a way to connect with others, there may be times where your edges are met. Meeting our edges in a safe and intentional way provides an opportunity for personal growth and expansion.

Retreat:

Additionally, the 2 night retreat will be time for all of us to further connect and reflect on the journey we would have been on, with space to truly honor each other and start building a vision for the future. The retreat will be held on a property 1.5hrs out of Melbourne, with all meals provided and included in the overall price.

This is for you if you are:

  • Looking for spaces to connect with other men.
  • Desiring to be part of a brotherhood.
  • Looking to challenge yourself.
  • Having difficulty expressing your emotions.
  • Having feelings of loneliness, anxiety, anger, sadness, numbness.
  • Wanting to spend more time in nature.
  • Wanting to learn tools like breathwork and meditation.
  • In need of a solid support system.

Why is this just for men?

  • 9 people die from suicide every day in Australia. 7 of them are men.
  • Suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged 15-44.
  • 1 woman dies every 4 days at the hands of a man in Australia.

These statistics are multidimensional, and are due to many reasons. However, from running over 150 preventative mental health workshops, working with over 4000 people, I believe that these statistics occur because:

  • Many men do not know how to stand with their emotions.
  • Many men are still restricted in their expression due to limiting beliefs and stereotypes.
  • Many lack a supportive community.
  • We do not have a culturally agreed upon Rites of Passage that marks our transitions into manhood.

Simply put, men need safely held spaces to intentionally meet & express the edges of their being with other men.

About your facilitator:

My name is Kyle Llewellyn. I am currently a Lead facilitator and keynote speaker at The Man Cave. A preventative mental health and emotional intelligence charity which leads young boys to become men of character through whole day transformational workshops. Additionally, I am a breathwork and meditation practitioner that has run events and retreats all over Australia. At the core of my beliefs and practices is that I believe that cultivating a deeper connection to ourselves, each other and nature is key for us to show up authentically and lead a fulfilling life.
