About this event

About SMUCC

Formed in 2007 by five enthusiastic choristers, the SMU Chamber Choir is one of the most prestigious arts clubs in SMU. The choir-family of undergrads and alumni continues to grow and learn from a wide repertoire and diverse experiences, in quest of artistic excellence. In addition to the annual Wrinkles in the Air concert, the Choir carols every year, performs for school events and for community outreach programmes, and in special collaborations. In 2024, they sang with the SYC Ensemble Singers in their 60th Anniversary concert, celebrating eternal youth and the choral legacy of the Singapore Youth Choir. During the SMU Arts Fest 2024, the Choir collaborated with SMU Symphonia to present an immersive concert experience, "Screen Play", harmonising music scores with cinematic visuals. The Choir was also invited to perform at the Yellow Ribbon Project 20th Anniversary Concert, celebrating two decades of second chances.

The Choir has performed around the world, in friendship concerts for local communities, and received Gold awards at several international choir festivals and music competitions; most recently at the 2nd Salzburg International Choral Celebration and Competition, Austria, in 2019. They have exchanged knowledge and different ways of listening with choirs at home, and in Bandung, Indonesia.

In the pandemic years, the Choir produced “Body Talk”, a body percussion video on YouTube, and presented several online performances for the SMU Arts Festival. In 2022, they co-created and gave voice to "re:site", a site- specific performance at SMU Connexion that paid homage to the old National Library Building, built on an original poem written for the festival by SMU President, Prof Lily Kong.

The Singapore Management University Chamber Choir also helps out in community outreach programs. This included the initiation of an exchange programme called "Silver Stars" with the Kelantan Road Residents, supported by the Singapore Community Development Council in 2020. The SMU Chamber Choir unites voices to inspire, connect, and create impact through choral music. Committed to artistic excellence, innovation, and meaningful collaborations, we enrich the cultural landscape of SMU and beyond.
