Writing the City Showcase 2021

Jon Greshamis a Singaporean writer (We Rose Up Slowly, Math Paper Press 2015 2nd ed), a co-founder of the Singaporean literary community,Sing Lit Station, and founder of theBook A Writer programmeand leader of theWriting the City Creative Writing Workshopsat Toa Payoh Library each month.Writing the Citywas founded in 2011 with the support of the British Council and National Arts Council Singapore, and is led by Jon Gresham.

Please join us for the Writing the City Showcase 2021 on 27 June 2021.

Writing the City is very proud to showcase ten writers on 27 June 2021 at 4pm online.These writers will read excerpts from their stories submitted to the Writing the City Showcase Competition earlier in the year and judged by Singapore Literature Prize winner, Akshita Nanda.This event is proudly supported by the Speak Good English Movement.About our WritersAnuja Hazarika is a social development (non-profit organization) management professional. An avid daydreamer but always curious. She is a keen observer of life’s ways of surprising and balancing life. Writing is her way of putting forward her beliefs, appreciation, and questions.Yimin Huang is passionate about the art of storytelling. She loves using words and imagination to tell a compelling story, whether it is in creative writing, film or acting. She is currently an editor at Expat Living and also does acting on the side. She hopes to connect the personal with the universal through her stories. She also believes that real life is stranger than fiction, and it is where all her inspiration comes from.Reena Kandoth enjoys listening to audiobooks and music. Her favourite activities are playing music, writing, watching TV and cycling. She likes words and language and has been a teacher and librarian. Cecilia Mahendran is a course developer and trainer with an interest in creative writing since childhood. She writes as a hobby and has had her stories published in Kitaab and under initiatives such as Writing the City anthologies and ReadFest Singapore. Other writing works include articles for periodicals and blogs as well as a school musical. She is married with two daughters who keep encouraging her not to give up writing. Cecilia is currently working on a young adult fiction novel after gaining renewed inspiration from the Asian Creative Writers Programme facilitated by the established Amsterdam-based Singaporean author Lee Jing Jing. Hema Nataraju is a Singapore-based writer and mom of two. Her work has been published various online magazines including Wigleaf, Atlas &amp; Alice, Ellipsis Zine, Sunlight Press, and in print anthologies including Bath Flash Fiction 2020, Best MicroFiction 2021, and Chicken Soup for the Soul. She tweets about her writing and parenting adventures as @m_ixedbag.Prasanthi Ram is a Creative Writing PhD candidate at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Her short stories have been published in The Tiger Moth Review and The Willowherb Review amongst others, and anthologised in Food Republic: A Singapore Literary Banquet (Landmark Books: 2020). She is also an Essay Reader for Singapore Unbound's SP Blog and the co-founder as well as fiction editor of Mahogany Journal.Audrey Tay stumbled into writing when as a child, she realised she was happy spinning stories to fool her parents into thinking she was busy at her homework. As an adult, her writing takes place in between pandering to her pampered pooch and baking that elusive perfect cookie (chocolate chips only please).Jacqueline Then enjoys expressing ideas through visual art, music composition and literature. She has participated in exhibitions - Colours of the Bible and Angelico Art, as a painting artist. She is also educated and experienced in video art and psychology. Her past publications include poetry - “That Drink” (2015), published by National Library (Singapore) on Poetry on Platforms, and “A Monologue in Blue Pinafore” for the book Writing The City – Fresh Fiction from Singapore II (2016). She also attempts playwriting.
