Family Drug Support
Family Drug Support (FDS) aims to empower families, carers, and friends to better cope with the challenges of alcohol and other drug use within the family. Guided by principles of evidence-based practice, harm reduction, inclusiveness, and non-judgement, FDS provides practical, emotional, and educational support to reduce stigma and improve wellbeing.
FDS operates a range of national services, including Support Meetings,
• A 24/7 Telephone Support Line, the only helpline in Australia dedicated specifically to families and friends impacted by alcohol and other drug use. Staffed by trained volunteers, it provides empathetic, non-judgemental support, a safe space to share experiences, explore options, set boundaries, and access referrals.
• Support Meetings across metropolitan, regional, and rural areas, offering peer connection and shared strategies.
• Education and Skills Programs such as Stepping Stones and Stepping Forward, building knowledge and resilience for families.
• Information sessions, workshops, and in-services for communities and professionals to increase awareness and family-inclusive practice.
• Bereavement Support for families coping with drug-related loss.
Through these activities, FDS seeks to ensure that no family faces the impact of alcohol and drug use alone.
