Accentutor - Mary Lamb
Mary is from the UK and has long been fascinated by the English language. She received her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Durham in the UK (a World Top 100 university). Shortly afterwards, she began her teaching journey when she moved to Japan to teach English as part of the Japanese Government’s prestigious ‘Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme’.
After spending three years teaching English in Japan, Mary returned to the UK and spent the next decade working in corporate governance and board support roles in London. During this time she qualified as a Chartered Governance Professional (CGP) with The Chartered Governance Institute (CGI). As such, Mary has a broad range of experience working with senior executives and directors in both private and public companies across a broad range of industries.
In 2018, following a move to Singapore, Mary decided to combine her love of teaching the English language with her corporate experience and background, by helping non-native English speaking students and professionals to communicate in English with confidence. In fact, she has worked with clients from all over the world including Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Isreal, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.
Recognising the specific need of her clients for a structured methodology to help them improve their pronunciation of English sounds, Mary qualified as a Compton Pronouncing English as a Second Language (PESL) certified instructor. Soon afterwards, she founded Accentutor to help her clients to meet this need.
