Breast Reconstruction Awareness Singapore (BRAS)

Breast Reconstruction Awareness Singapore (BRAS) is a non-profit organisation wholly run by accredited plastic surgeons. We were set up in 2013, with the aim to offer reliable resources on breast reconstruction to breast cancer patients. Through our website (www.bras.org.sg) and activities, our main objectives are to educate and support breast cancer survivors on breast reconstruction and to raise public awareness in breast reconstructive surgery.

To a woman who has lost her breast to cancer, the creation of a new breast can dramatically improve her quality of life. Reconstructive surgery is not purely for cosmesis, women who opt to have breast reconstruction benefit from research-proven improvement in emotional well-being, social functioning and body image,compared to those who do not have reconstruction. Although many are eligible, minority of breast cancer survivors undergo breast reconstruction due to reasons such as lack of information, fear of the unknown and poor support from loved ones who do not understand the benefits of breast reconstruction. Reconstructive surgery for breast cancer is covered by Medisave and most insurance plans.
