Renaissance Society Sacramento

What is the Renaissance Society?

The Renaissance Society of Sacramento provides opportunities for participatory lifelong learning and community engagement for adults. Our learning opportunities include seminars and other programs on widely varied subjects proposed and presented by our members. We are involved with California State University Sacramento in many helping ways to provide more learning opportunities, such as providing scholarships or volunteering for many Sac State departments. We’re both in-person and online! In normal times, many of our programs on widely varied subjects are on Fridays and Saturdays on the Sac State campus and various other locations. Now we have both in-person and online programs, using safe, social-distancing ways to deliver our seminars.

Our Renaissance Society community offers:* A lively community of curious adults eager to pursue their passion for lifelong learning, community, and service.* Unlimited access to hundreds of engaging seminars, talks, discussions, workshops, presentations, documentaries, hands-on activities, and community forums offered six-days a week. * Exciting ways to connect with friends, old and new, through our Renaissance Society Facebook group; The Recorder, our monthly newsletter; Constant Contact email blasts; and virtual hangouts with other aficionados of food, travel, games, books, the arts, film and other “Shared Interest Groups.” * Opportunities to give back to the community by participating in a committee, coordinating a seminar or program, giving to the University Food Pantry and Student Scholarships, and other services to the University.

The Renaissance Community programs features single seminars on a variety of subjects. We feature authors, writers and speakers throughout the state; food, drink and cultural historians; Renaissance Society members; and others from our community who are passionate about the past and the present.Renaissance Society works with community partners to offer these free programs. Thank you to our associates from The Art Deco Society of Sacramento, Culinary Historians of Northern California, Friends of the Sacramento Library, Sacramento Public Library, Friendship Force of Sacramento, Sacramento Book Collectors Club, Sacramento Historical Society, Sacramento River Delta Historical Society, Social Distance Theater, and many others. Traditionally, these community programs are offered in senior centers, regional libraries, and residence communities and open to all. With our new virtual environment, we are expanding our list of speakers and online members far beyond our Sacramento community.
