Steven Ong

Steven is currently a Senior Lecturer with one of the local polytechnics. Prior to his current position, he was the Principal Trainer and founding MD of ForwardLeap Training Lab. he had also been the MD of a serviced office operator; MD of an angel investment company; CEO of a 2,000 members strong industry association and CMO of a regional corporate training and business consultancy company. 

Graduated from NUS and held the international professional designation of Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Steven had over 15 years of experience in personal financial planning before he took on corporate positions. He had assisted over 300 families in wealth management and supported many SMEs to manage their business risks and employee benefits.

Prior to his full-time appointment as the former CEO of Financial Planning Association of Singapore (FPAS), he was elected for 2 consecutive terms as Honorary Secretary and served for 4 years. He had also held many roles, included Vice Chairman for FPAS Financial Advisory Industry Review (FAIR) Committee, Chairman for Constitution Review Committee etc. He had authored 2 Study Guides for the local CFP® Certification course.

Since 2006, he had been regularly invited by many organisations to share in seminars, forums and workshops, included ITE Bishan, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, NKF, SIAS, People's Association, NTUC, Lakeside Family Services, Singapore Prison Services, Ministry of Home Affairs, Singtel, Singapore Business Federation, Centre for Seniors etc. He had appeared on Channel News Asia MoneyMind to share his investment experience in 2014; was featured in The Sunday Times to discuss about Insurance for Special Needs Children in 2015; was interviewed by 938NOW (formerly known as 938LIVE before 6 Nov 2017), and several local and regional publications (included The Straits Times, The Business Times etc) to share about the Financial Literacy level among Singaporeans in 2016.

Besides mentoring start-ups and personally invested in a few businesses, Steven had been invited to judge many pitching events, included EDGE Hack 2017, Republic Polytechnic Pitch Day 2017, Singapore Institute of Technology inaugural Hackathon 2017, INSEAD Demo Day 2017 etc. He is currently a Start-up Mentor with Temasek Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic and TRIVE (Venture Capital) Next50 initiative. Steven is a regular regional speaker and trainer on topics relating to Personal Financial Planning and Entrepreneurship.

Steven held the rank of a Captain and the appointment of Officer-in-charge (OC) in the Singapore Armed Forces. He is also a School Advisory Board member for Fern Green Primary School; a Steering Committee member for one of the fastest-growing and largest Facebook community of Human Resources and Finance professionals in Singapore and ASEAN; and a Council member of Singapore Sales Professionals Association.
