About this event
Understanding the Mind
Tuesdays with Gen Kelsang Rabka(in-person or live-streamed)
7.30 – 8.45pm: Aug 19, 26, Sep 2 & 9
"Happiness and suffering are feelings – parts of our mind – and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind. If we really want to be truly happy and free from suffering we must improve our understanding of the mind."
- Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche
We often say, "My mind, my mind," but if someone were to ask us, "What is your mind?" we would likely find it quite difficult to answer. Since happiness and suffering are states of mind, if we are to find the happiness we seek, an understanding of our mind is essential.
During this series of classes we will explore Buddhist insights into the nature, function and power of the mind, and gain practical meditative experience on the conventional nature of the mind. As we learn to navigate the intricacies of our mind, we'll gain the tools to foster lasting peace and happiness amidst life's turbulence.
Topics covered will include:
- What is the mind?
- How to meditate on the mind itself, and the insights this brings
- How the way things appear to us depends upon our mind
- How changing our own mental attitude changes whether a situation is good or bad
- How to cultivate new, positive ways of looking at our world
You are welcome to join this series any week regardless of experience. Everybody is welcome!
