What really happens inside a computer?💻

We don’t often think about how computers work, it’s like a mystery box that works like magic. However, a lot of research and development has gone over the centuries to achieve what computers do today. In this workshop, we will peek inside that mystery box and see what really is happening inside the computer, and how it is able to do what it does.

Whether you're currently a student, graduating soon or have already completed yours studies, come join us!

During this workshop, we'll be taking a look at some fundamental concepts and try to understand those through hands-on exercises with or without computers. Some of those exercises include understanding how computers communicate, how to organise information, how to securely store data, how things might go wrong on computers, and many other curiosity-inducing problems faced by computers all the time.

Dr Jin Hong

Dr Jin Hong is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Western Australia’s School of Physics, Maths and Computing. Prior to that, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand from 2016 to 2018, where he also received his PhD degree in Apr 2015. His research interests are in security modelling and analysis, Intelligent security solutions, humans in cybersecurity, and cybersecurity education.
